Warm Direct Vent Gas Fireplace
The direct vent gas fireplace produces a warm and inviting fire. This vented gas fireplace is designed to emulate a wood burning fire with vented gas fireplace logs. Prefabricated outdoor gas fireplaces can be designed as zero clearance fireplaces so that you are not restricted with locating your fireplace.
When you purchase your direct vent gas fireplace, it will come with an enclosed firebox, gas logs, and a front glass enclosure. The glass enclosure allows radiant heat to pass through. These fireplaces are more efficient than a traditional fireplace because they do not allow heat to escape out through a chimney. Instead, they vent out through pipes specially designed for gas fireplaces and can therefore, vent out horizontally through a wall or vertically through the roof. This flexibility is especially important if your fireplace is located in an enclosed porch.
Gas Fireplace Logs
Gas logs come in two varieties: vented and
vent free gas logs
. The vented gas logs are used with your direct vent gas fireplace and their main advantage is that their flames both look very similar to the wood burning fire. Note that the flames looks more like a wood burning fire because these logs release more pollutants than a vent free gas log. Gas log sets come with a grate, logs, and a burner. These logs are made from cement, ceramic clay, or ceramic fibers. Generally, cement logs are used for direct vent logs, however, ceramic clay or ceramic fiber logs may be used as well.
Gas fireplace logs are installed with a safety pilot kit that consists of a pilot light and a shut off valve. The pilot light automatically starts the fire and may be left on all the time or re-lit every time you want to start a fire.
Prefabricated Outdoor Gas Fireplaces
A prefab fireplace is manufactured and shipped so that you have very little assembly when you receive it. A prefabricated fireplace consists of the firebox, gas logs, venting system, and glass enclosure. These units are generally free standing gas fireplaces so that you can place them anywhere that fits with your backyard design. In addition, prefabricated outdoor fireplaces can be manufactured so that they are zero clearance fireplaces. In other words, you could place the fireplace next to any outdoor structure, such as the side of your house, without worrying that your house will burn down.
